Personal Training

A personal trainer in Durham who is a physical therapist first

One-on-one training written by someone who knows what your joints have already been through, and what they can take now.

First, the boundary: this is not physical therapy

If something hurts, or you are recovering from an injury or surgery, that is physical therapy and we should talk about that instead. Training is for people who are healthy and want to get stronger or better at something. I do both, and I will tell you on the first call which one you actually need.

Why this is not the same as a gym trainer

The person writing your program has a doctorate in how bodies break

A three-year clinical doctorate

Not a weekend certification. The difference shows up in what I am willing to load and when.

A board specialty in orthopaedics

I know the orthopedic consequences of exercise, so we can push harder where it is safe to push.

Your old injuries count

A replaced hip, a repaired shoulder, a back with opinions. We work with them rather than around them.

Who I train

Mostly older clients working on strength, balance and staying functional, plus younger athletes who want real coaching rather than a program pulled off the internet.

Where we train

The Levin JCC in Durham, or your own home, across Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Hillsborough.
